I have no contact with Jack Vance at all, except respecting him as 
someone who added some quite important components to what became the
'generic fantasy universe' of early RPGs (and who also wrote The Blue
World and The Dying Earth).

But, look, just because a book was published several years after mine does
NOT mean I didn't pinch the idea.  I thought it was a basic tenet of
afp Baconianism that I can stea-- plag-- creatively borrow through time 
and space :-)
